ASMAR

ASMAR – Traditional music of Sudan, rearranged by Mo Ahmed with fresh energy and a contemporary sound

Mo & Kush Band’s new album takes Sudanese music back to its roots. Mo has extensively studied the traditional music of the remote villages of Sudan. For years, the rich musical heritage of Sudans diverse tribes has been pushed into the shadows, traditional music in their original languages being forbidden, and only Arabic music being officially allowed. In this new album, Mo will bring to light the hidden sounds of Western Sudan, where music is deeply connected to movement—the rhythm of a farmer at work, the flight of a bird, or the graceful steps of a deer. The music is driven by powerful percussion and deep grooves. In this new album, Mo & Kush Band put the log drum center stage. Staying true to tradition, the songs are performed in the original tribal languages, such as Fulani and Hausa.
